Scalp Analysis: What It Can Show and What to Expect at Aurea
What a scalp analysis can reveal, what it cannot, and how a closer look guides a personalized scalp-care experience in Seminole, Florida.
Your scalp is skin, too — and it deserves thoughtful care.
Before a head spa at Aurea, we take a closer look. We use a magnifying camera to see the visible surface of your scalp, and we talk: what you use at home, how often you wash, anything that has felt uncomfortable, and what you are hoping for.
This closer look helps us understand your starting point and make your scalp-care experience more personal.
What is a scalp analysis?
In a spa setting, a scalp analysis is a visual observation. We place a magnifying camera against the scalp and look at what is there on the surface, usually across a few different areas.
Around that, we ask: which products you use and how often, how frequently you wash, whether anything has irritated your skin before, and what you would like your hair and scalp to feel like.
Together, these observations and your personal history help guide cosmetic care choices. This is a non-medical assessment and does not replace a dermatological examination.
What can we observe?
With magnification, some things become easier to see than they are in a mirror:
- Visible flaking
- Product residue or buildup sitting on the surface
- A generally oily or generally dry appearance
- Areas that look red
- How the hair looks close to the scalp
Those are observations about appearance, and that distinction matters more than it sounds.
How does this guide your experience at Aurea?
What we see and what you tell us shape cosmetic choices: how to cleanse and condition, how much product to use, how firm the massage should be, water temperature.
Your comfort guides the experience. If you report tenderness or irritation, we assess whether to adapt or postpone the service and recommend medical evaluation when appropriate.
Please tell us about allergies, any scalp medication you are using, recent procedures, or anything that feels sore or uncomfortable. This information helps us consider product suitability and whether the service is appropriate that day.
Can we compare images over time?
With your permission, we can keep the images as a visual record, and some guests like having them.
A fair comparison needs similar conditions: the same lighting, magnification, camera position and area of the scalp. Differences in these conditions can make comparisons less reliable. Washing matters too — a scalp photographed right after a wash looks different from the same scalp at the end of a long day.
So it is worth being clear about what a later image can and cannot mean. A cleaner-looking picture does not demonstrate hair growth, improved follicle health, or that any condition has been treated. It shows that the surface looked different in that photograph, under those conditions.
What are the limits?
- The camera does not diagnose dandruff, alopecia, infections or any other condition.
- It does not measure stress, cortisol, nutritional deficiencies or hormones.
- It does not replace a dermatological evaluation.
At Aurea, we use the camera for cosmetic observation and education. Identifying a medical condition or the cause of hair loss requires evaluation by a qualified healthcare professional.
When should you see a dermatologist?
Please seek a medical evaluation if you are experiencing:
- Persistent itching
- Burning or pain
- Sores, scabs or lesions
- Sudden hair loss, or hair loss in patches
If you already have a diagnosed condition, follow your healthcare professional's guidance, and ask them whether a spa service like ours is appropriate for you right now.

Questions guests ask
- Is a scalp analysis a medical exam?
- No. What we do is a visual look at the surface of your scalp with a magnifying camera, alongside a conversation about your routine and what you want cosmetically. It is a non-medical assessment and does not replace an evaluation by a dermatologist.
- Can the camera tell me why my scalp flakes?
- It cannot. A camera shows what is visible on the surface; it does not identify a cause. Visible flaking has several possible explanations, and separating them requires evaluation by a qualified healthcare professional.
- Do I need to book a separate scalp analysis before my Head Spa?
- No separate analysis appointment is needed before booking your Head Spa. We discuss your routine and concerns during your visit to help guide the experience.
